Let us know your thoughts on the new FFA New Horizons online.
The National FFA Organization, in partnership with Campbell Soup
Company and Urban Farming, is continuing its “Help Grow Your Soup” campaign this spring
with a goal to grow more than one billion tomatoes across the country. The effort begins with the
planting of five community gardens in the urban communities of New York City, Atlanta,
Detroit, Chicago and Camden, N.J.
Campbell will donate tomato, carrot and sweet pepper seeds – the same seeds that
farmers use to grow the vegetables that go into Campbell’s condensed soup – to each garden.
The National FFA Organization’s Partners in Active Learning Support (PALS) program, which
pairs FFA members with elementary students, will plant and maintain the gardens, along with the
help of Urban Farming, an organization whose mission is to end hunger and provide healthy food
for people in need by planting gardens on unused land and space. The gardens will not only
produce food for the community, but also contribute to educating participants about American
agriculture. TV personality and gardening guru Danny Seo helped kick off the spring planting
spree in New York City on April 16.
The campaign continues through June 21, where anyone who purchases Campbell’s
condensed soup and enters the code on the can at HelpGrowYourSoup.com will receive a free
packet of Campbell’s tomato seeds to plant and grow at home. These are the same seeds that
produce the high-quality, farm-grown ingredients that go into each can of Campbell’s®
condensed soups. Each request means that Campbell will donate seeds to the National FFA
Organization to help grow one billion tomatoes.
The timing couldn’t be better for this partnership, since more Americans are planting
vegetable gardens at home because of its cost-effectiveness and environmental impact. FFA
members and supporters are encouraged to visit HelpGrowYourSoup.com and help FFA,
Campbell Soup Company and Urban Farming realize their goal of growing one billion tomatoes.
