Gear Up For The 80th National FFA Convention

Racing to Indy

Henry Winkler, convention keynote speaker

October 2007

For first-time national FFA convention attendees, the event can be a bit overwhelming. Where else can you see more than 50,000 FFA members in one place, all easily recognizable in their snazzy blue corduroy jackets?

But never fear! We’ve rounded up our best insider tips for any convention attendee, whether this is your first or fifth national FFA convention. Here’s our list of the convention events you just can’t miss.

1. National FFA Days of Service
Last year, the inaugural FFA National Day of Service was such a hit that it’s now become a two-day event. Twelve Indianapolis organizations, including Strides to Success and Girls Inc., will host nearly 2,000 FFA members, all in the spirit of community service. For information on how you can join in, visit ffa.org. Space is limited, so sign up now!

2. Keynote Speeches
Just hearing this year’s keynote speaker lineup is enough to make anyone excited about the convention. With dynamic speakers like Dr. Rick Rigsby, chaplain for the Texas A&M football team, and Henry Winkler, best known for his role as “the Fonz” on “Happy Days,” convention sessions are sure to excite and inspire.

Other sessions will feature powerful stories from Chad Hymas, a world-class wheelchair athlete who once completed a 500-mile personal marathon, and Mark Sanborn, former national FFA president who truly believes in the value of the FFA organization.

3. Music and More
Concerts are always a fun part of the convention, and this year’s acts are no exception. In fact, Wednesday’s concert is extra special, as we invite country music artists (and former FFA members) Montgomery Gentry to perform.

Between their numerous hit songs and energetic stage act, they might even share some of their favorite FFA memories.

4. An FFA Beach Party
Sounds strange, right? Especially since the convention is hosted by land-locked Indianapolis in late October! But it’s true. This year’s can’t-miss event is none other than a concert by the world-famous Beach Boys. Dress the part with a Hawaiian-print shirt and sing along to classic Beach Boys songs.

The concert will be nationally broadcasted live on RFD-TV, so you might even make your television debut.

5. The Center of It All
Your chapter might have visited the National FFA Center during last year’s convention, but it’s worth a trip back. Over the past few months, the center has been completely remodeled, with new displays and additions.

Also take a tour of the brand-new Merchandise Center – the home of FFA jackets, hats, shirts and all other FFA merchandise.

6. Downtown Excitement
The city of Indianapolis raved over the presence of FFA last year and is even more geared up for this year’s convention. Look for FFA special rates at restaurants, museums and attractions.

It’s time to take over the city with blue jackets and bright futures, so let’s make Indy proud to host the national FFA convention once again.
