Letters From Camp

Did you attend FFA camp this summer? Besides the swimming, boating, sports and recreational activities, FFA camps are designed to empower FFA members and motivate them for the next year. Here’s one summer camp experience from Savannah Weilert of the Chelsea FFA Chapter in Oklahoma.

“Leaving the 2008 Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership Camp, everything I had learned was still fresh on my mind. We were shown how to step up and lead not only in our FFA chapters, but also in our daily lives. I learned that being a team means more than just working together, but trusting each other as well. We spent over four hours in one day just playing teamwork games and talking about how to truly be a team. I learned that, even though it’s difficult, wearing your heart on your sleeve and sharing your past experiences, good and bad, will not only build upon that trust but also help you get over some of your past mistakes. It wasn’t just about teamwork, though. They helped us see what’s really going on in our communities. The violence, drugs, and abuse doesn’t just happen in certain areas, it’s everywhere you look. There are more problems out there and in just four days of hearing about them, I was ready. I’m ready to stand up and fight to change our community one day at a time, but I can’t do it alone. Everywhere around us things are happening. So the question is are YOU ready? Believe it or not you can make a difference so look around you, open your eyes a little more, see the problems in your communities, and make the effort to change it. The Chelsea FFA Chapter has seen this and is ready to volunteer our time to help our community. Are you ready to do the same?”
