What a Concept Boat

What do you do when General Motors gives you a $30,000 state-of-the-art inboard boat engine? If you’re part of the Bridgeport FFA Chapter in Connecticut, you build a boat around it!  Bridgeport students put their engineering, math, physics and computer skills to work designing several concept boats using AutoCAD and PlyBoat software, and their hard work paid off.  One of their designs was chosen for construction – also done by the students.

Stop by the GM booth during the 80th National FFA Convention in October to check out Bridgeport’s working aquaculture boat and scale models of the other designs.

What’s Hot

Coleman Harris recently retired from his role as Executive Secretary for the National FFA Organization – after 45 of service to agricultural education. Harris has served as an agriculture teacher, Indiana State FFA Executive Secretary and National FFA Executive Secretary.

“Coleman has played an important role in the organization’s work” says Doug Loudenslager, chief executive officer for the National FFA Organization. “His leadership and support of this organization have been tremendous.”

Mr. Harris, thanks for your longtime dedication to FFA. Congratulations!

Food
Time for a Snack

Paul Geatches started making meat snacks in a homemade smoker when a local FFA chapter needed help raising funds. Nowadays, Country Meats in Ocala, Fla., produces 18,000 snack sticks a day for FFA fundraisers around the country. Geatches attributes the success of his family business to the values he learned growing up in FFA. Stop by the Country Meats booth during the 80th National FFA Convention for your own taste test.
